Promoting the exchange, mutual understanding of, and respect for the cultural and documentary heritage of diverse cultural communities in the Netherlands.
Discover Our MissionStichting PACE (Preservation and Archiving for Cultural Exchange) aims to promote the exchange, mutual understanding of, and respect for the cultural and documentary heritage of diverse cultural communities in the Netherlands.
We operate in line with the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, meaning we believe:
In carrying out our mission we work to enrich the cultural life of diasporic communities that are part of Dutch society.
We mobilize our volunteers’ skills around archiving and documentation to record, organize, preserve, and share the histories of the communities we work with. We recognize that many diaspora community stories are hidden or erased from mainstream archives and assert that control over one’s records and narratives is a valuable source of empowerment and agency.
We select and curate records from our archival work and prepare them for display and accessibility to the wider public, so we can widen the reach of diaspora community stories. We believe that information is not just factual, but deeply emotional, and by creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds to build empathy with each other we can help forge greater understanding and unity between different communities.
We facilitate workshops and training sessions to build the self-reliance and capacity of diaspora communities to manage their own community records and archives. We also use archives as a vehicle to host educational discussions around diaspora community histories. We abide by the maxim, "each one, teach one," acknowledging that everyone can become an archives worker.
Records are a rich source of information on the histories, development, and current situation of diaspora communities. We believe that archives are useful for the transmission, continuation, and maintenance of community culture and knowledge. We follow the adage, "know history, know self," and are committed to helping communities preserve their records to help build their own futures.
Information in archival records can help communities tackle their current issues by serving as educational and awareness-raising tools. Disseminating these analyses widely in the form of publications is one way we can help these communities advocate for their present-day struggles and challenges.
